Acoustic Tile Room Calculator

How to Use the Acoustic Tile Calculator — Versare NZ
1
Enter your room dimensions
Length, width, and ceiling height in metres

Start by entering the three measurements of your room.

Room length (m)
The longest wall of your room, measured in metres. Example: 3.2m
Room width (m)
The shorter wall of your room, measured in metres. Example: 2.6m
Room height (m)
Floor to ceiling height. Standard commercial ceilings are typically 2.4m; open-plan offices may be 3.0m or more.
Room reference
Optional. Give the room a name (e.g. Boardroom, Training Room) so your result is easy to identify when you send it to us.
Tip: Measure to the nearest 0.1 m. Don't worry about being perfectly exact — the calculator includes a waste allowance to cover small variations.
2
Exclude walls (optional)
Glass walls, windows, or walls that can't be treated

If one of your walls is mostly glass, a large window, a whiteboard, or simply can't have tiles mounted on it, you can remove it from the calculation so you don't over-order.

Exclude one length wall
Removes one of the two long walls from the total area. Click the button to toggle it on or off — it will highlight in teal when active.
Exclude one width wall
Removes one of the two short walls from the total area. Useful for rooms where a wall has a large doorway or is mostly glass.
Compensate with the ceiling: If you exclude a wall, consider switching the treatment area to Walls plus ceiling in Step 4. Adding ceiling tiles often makes up for the lost wall surface and improves results noticeably.
3
Choose your main tile
Select the tile size and shape for the bulk of your order

Use the Main tile choice dropdown to select the SoundSorb tile you want to use for most of the room. Each option shows its size, the area it covers per tile, and the price.

Not sure which tile to choose? Here's a quick guide:

500mm tiles (Square, Round, Hexagon, Triangle)
Great for most commercial spaces. Larger tiles cover area faster and create a bold visual impact. Ideal for boardrooms, offices, and meeting rooms.
300mm tiles (Square, Round)
More flexible for tighter layouts or mixed feature arrangements. Good for smaller rooms or where you need to work around obstacles.
Rectangle & Full Sheet
Best for high-coverage applications or large open-plan areas. Full sheets are the most cost-effective option per square metre.
Tip: You can mix a main tile with feature tiles (Step 5) to create a visual pattern — for example, large square tiles as the base with hexagons as accents.
4
Set coverage and treatment area
How much of the room to treat, and where
Treatment area
Choose Treat walls only (default) or Walls plus ceiling. Adding the ceiling is especially effective in rooms with hard flooring or high ceilings.
Coverage target (%)
The percentage of the selected surface area you want to cover with tiles. 25% is the recommended starting point for most commercial spaces.
Waste allowance (%)
Accounts for cutting losses, handling damage, and layout adjustments. 10% is the standard allowance and suits most installations.

Coverage guide

Coverage Best for Expected result
15–20% Light treatment, rooms that are already partially furnished Noticeable reduction in echo; still lively
25–35% Most offices, meeting rooms, boardrooms Clear speech, comfortable acoustic environment
40–50% Training rooms, call centres, hard-surface rooms Significantly quieter; improved speech clarity
50%+ Recording, broadcast, or highly reverberant spaces Near-dry acoustic environment
Start at 25% and add more later. It's easy to add tiles after installation if you need more treatment. Starting too high means unnecessary cost upfront.
5
Add feature tiles (optional)
Mix in a second tile shape for visual variety

Feature tiles let you create a designed look by mixing two different tile shapes. For example, you might use large square tiles as the base and add a cluster of hexagons or rounds as an accent.

Feature tile size
Select a different tile from the dropdown. Leave it on No feature tiles if you only want one tile type.
Feature tile quantity
Enter how many feature tiles you want. The calculator will deduct their coverage from the overall target, then calculate how many main tiles fill the remainder.
✏️
How feature tiles work: Feature tiles are applied to walls first. If walls are fully covered and you've selected ceiling treatment, any remaining feature tiles flow onto the ceiling. The main tile fills whatever area is left.

Acoustic Tile Calculator

Exclude walls (optional)
Use this if one wall is mostly glass or cannot be treated. If you exclude wall area, treating the ceiling often helps compensate.
Treatment area
Feature tiles (optional)
Feature tiles are deducted from the coverage target first. They are applied to walls first; if walls are fully covered and ceiling is selected, any excess is applied to ceiling.

Estimate only; room layout and hard surfaces can change results. Start with 25% coverage; add more later if needed.

Waste allowance covers cutting losses, handling damage, and layout variation. 10% is a standard allowance and works well for most rooms. Very simple rooms may need slightly less; complex layouts may need slightly more.
